(WACO, TEXAS—May 16, 2010) School bus driver Jo Ellen Cowan of Alvin, Texas, won a cruise for two, courtesy of Oxy-Gen, at Elite Barrel Racing’s debut event, the Classic Equine Big Cash Getaway, held May 14-16 in Waco, Texas.
Throughout the weekend, participants had to register at the Oxy-Gen booth, manned by distributor Robin Cummings, and then fold their application into a paper airplane. Those airplanes were then hurled into the arena at various targets during opening ceremonies prior to each section of the barrel race. Those that reached the targets entered a drawing for the cruise.
Cowan said Cummings helped her fold her airplane.
“I said, ‘I don’t know how to make them, but I’ve had plenty thrown at me over the years,” laughed Cowan, who also collected $1,050 for placing third in the 6D of the $75,000 Guaranteed Barrel Race.
Cowan, who lives near the Texas Gulf Coast, doesn’t have a destination in mind just yet. “I’m afraid of water,” laughed the 59-year-old, who lost her beloved husband Charlie just three months ago. “I think Charlie’s smiling down at me.”
